Welcome New Author: Nora Mayers

Nora “N.L.” Mayers wrote her first book at the age of seven, scribbled on yellow notebook pages and stapled at the sides. Her brother provided the illustrations. She hasn’t stopped writing since.

After beginning her career as an agented scriptwriter, life, the universe, and everything (apologies to Douglas Adams) forced her to step away from the field. She continued to write for friends and family, however, and won awards for amateur fiction. She also crafted a short story for West End Games, wrote theater and film reviews for local newspapers, and contributed to other limited publications.

Upon retirement, Nora picked up the pen again to finish a book series she had begun years earlier and had been forced to set aside. The first two of those novels—World War II dramas following one man’s journey toward faith—have been published on Amazon.com under the titles The Brackman Ticket and Together For Good. The third in the trilogy is expected in mid‑to‑late 2026. The character-heavy novels are faith-based, but written so that readers who don’t consider themselves “religious” will enjoy them as well.

A native of Michigan, Nora now lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and attends Harvest Alliance Church in Centreville. She intends to continue writing as long as the Lord permits and gives inspiration.

Together For Good

$11.99

A faith-based historical novel of trust in the face of doubt

When seven-year-old Rusty Truett runs away from his movie star mother in Hollywood, he knows exactly where to go—straight to his hero, Navy veteran Brian "Jack" Jackson, living across the country in New York.

Recovering from injuries that ended his Navy and Broadway careers, Jack is trying to find new meaning in life, while also learning more about the new faith he never knew he needed. Standing staunchly beside him, Dorrie Martin—the young woman who has already seen him through some of his most challenging days—isn't about to stop now.

When Rusty shows up on Jack's doorstep, desperate and afraid, Jack knows he can't turn away the little boy who once meant so much to him, and who needs him so much now. Rusty's mother isn't ready to let him go, but Jack is determined to give him the family and foundation he needs.

This sequel to “The Brackman Ticket”—a story of second chances, found family, and the transformative power of choosing love and faith over fear—may be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel or as a continuation of the first novel.

The Brackman Ticket

$11.99

A faith-based historical novel about one man’s reluctant journey toward discovery.

When America enters World War II, brash Broadway star Brian “Jack” Jackson enlists in the Navy, leaving the spotlight and his glamorous fiancée behind. Aboard ship, he forms an unlikely friendship with fellow gunner Drew Brackman, a seminary student in civilian life, whose quiet faith challenges everything Jack thought he knew.

Back home, the women in their lives await their return. Jack's fiancée, Loretta, dazzles on magazine covers, while Drew's girl, Dorrie, runs the breakfast counter at a Manhattan five-and-dime. Different realities, one hope—an end to war and reunion with the men they love.

In the midst of the chaos, Drew Brackman's simple analogy of "The Ticket" provides a glimmer of hope to Jack and others around him.

A World War II story of unlikely friendship, hard choices, and the invitation that changes everything.

Welcoming Newest Scribbler: Paul D. McDonald

Paul’s first memory of writing was when he received an award in grade school for a short science fiction story that he wrote to illustrate the dangers of polluting. But even then, the writing bug had not yet bitten. It wasn’t until that day in ninth-grade English class that everything changed when his teacher asked him to write an essay illustrating an object lesson. Instead, he wrote a short story, and once the story was committed to paper, it seemed there was no turning back. He knew he wanted to be a writer.

It was at that time that the Flaugherty Twins Mystery series was born. Paul wanted to create a series for both boys and girls to read, and the idea of the psychic connection between twins always fascinated him. He also wanted his characters to reflect his Irish Catholic heritage. His characters are not perfect, but they have a strong moral foundation that keeps them from getting into too much trouble when they bend the rules a little.

The original first story in the series was penned when he was still a teenager himself, near the age of his protagonists. This was followed by a second story, but then the writing stopped. The idea for the third book in the series was percolating in Paul’s mind for many years when finally, with a nudge from a coworker to begin writing again, the third book was completed and then a fourth and a fifth. With another nudge from one of his sisters, Paul finally connected with Newman Springs Publishing, who agreed to publish his works, and so the adventure begins.
