Mari Ann Stefanelli has been a professional independent editor since 2014 and is the founder and executive director of The Writer’s High®, LLC, which provides uplifting and inspiring editing, coaching, and ghostwriting services for authors. Mari Ann specializes in developmental editing of memoir, narrative nonfiction, and selected genre fiction.
In 2015, she launched The Writer’s High Retreat®, an annual weekend writing retreat dedicated to nurturing writers in a bucolic setting. The event has featured literary luminaries, including the New York Times bestselling authors Winston Groom, Cassandra King, Patti Callahan Henry, and Joshilyn Jackson. Mari Ann’s writing and events have been featured in Deep South, Writers in the Storm, and Boom. She’s currently working on a writing-related anthology.
Mari Ann’s background is in public relations, and she has more than a decade of experience in the field. She’s worked for a national nonprofit, entrepreneurs, a politician, and a well-known New York agency. Her PR experience augments her editing, as she’s always looking for opportunities to help her clients’ manuscripts stand out in today’s crowded marketplace.
In addition to her work with clients, Mari Ann is an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and committed to increasing professionalism and transparency in the editing industry. In 2018, she co-launched the Georgia chapter of the EFA and continues to serve as a co-coordinator. In this volunteer effort, her primary roles are securing professional development training for members and coordinating community outreach programs that enhance the public’s understanding and access to editors and editing services.
